I am a strategic public sector consultant working in Cisco's Internet Business Solutions Group. In 2004 I edited the book "Gonnected Government". Since four years I am the head of the eGovernment committee of the Germany ICT industry organisation BITKOM. Prior to my engagement with Cisco I was a senior public sector consultant in one of the major management consultancies. Before moving to the private sector I spend 11 years in German government.

    The Participatory Budget project in the city of Cologne is one of the recent hallmarks of Web 2.0 in Public Sector Germany. It has been awarded several times. In partciular it has won the national eGovernment award in Germany (Sponsorship from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Bearingpoint and Cisco).

    Slowly but steadily the German public sector is embracing Web 2.0. A new book has been published by the "Innovators Club" (Driver: German National Association for Cities and Towns). Its called "Web 2.0 for local government" (Web 2.0 für Kommunen und Kommunalpoliitk). It features insights in using Web 2.0 technologies and social networks in particuar as a new way for local politicians to engage better with citizens.
