Hi there, I'm Fergus from Adealaide (but a Queenslander deep down). I am presently the Manager of Information and Knowledge Management in the Department for Families and Communities. I am responsible for online services, a Geographic Information Systems Unit, two libraries and records management. I have a strong interest in how technology is changing the world and especially how it is being used to share, connect and engage.     Nice one, Martin. The realist v romantic notion struck a chord with me, for sure. I used it as a quote (with attribution to you and Cisco, of course) at the GOVIS conference in NZ last week. Some realist v romantic tensions certainly apparent in NZ - makes for a healthy debate, I think. Cheers

    I listened to the new ABC Radio National program, Future Tense, about where Obama is heading with web 2.0 etc. It included an interview with Micah Sifry (runs the Personal Democracy Forum) who mentions the Obama memo (noted by Paul J )“Knowledge is widely dispersed in society and public officials benefit from having access to that dispersed knowledge”.     Hi Paul, nice work on the paper, the intro bits especially are a very simple and useful overview of Web 2.0 etc. I have been thinking about why government might not embrace Web 2.0, I'm not sure whether it is part of the "Objections" section, but, in essence it is that government might stuff it up i.e. a government department will dip a toe in the water with good intentions, say, with online engagement, but they wont tap the full potential of social media.
