War and Web 2.0
Inevitably the tragic situation in Gaza is reflected in social media, but it is interesting to see the willingness of the Israeli Defence Forces to use both YouTube and Twitter to push their views. http://www.fastforwardblog.com/2008/12/31/war-20-the-idf-are-using-youtube-and-twitter/
I am sure there are also plenty of examples of facebook/twitter/youtube be used to make the opposing case as well.

There is an excellent public diplomacy wiki on social media use by both of the conflict parties (http://publicdiplomacy.pbwiki.com/Gaza)

Many thanks, Rolf. The wiki is excellent - really detailed and comprehensive and a brilliant case study in social media and the news.

Glad you liked it, Paul. PEP-NET has created a friendfeed room to enable all of us to collect resources like that. For those of you who are not familiar with friendfeed: It is service to compile different RSS feeds and to share and rate links and bookmarks.
There are currently a lot of feeds from the best eParticipation and eDemocracy blogs and websites included as well as selected bookmarks from delicious. The room is not designed as another discussion space but to create a stream of qualified links in the cross-section of politics and web 2.0.
It would be great if the connected republic community would join this room as a complementary service:

To give things a slightly more encouraging perspective here is a blog that Dave Briggs alerted me to that has daily postings from two friends - one in Gaza, one in Israel. http://gaza-sderot.blogspot.com/
