Facipulator created Canterbury university start shared services postgrad - despite no evidence for shared services 23 days ago.

Canterbury Christ Church University have shockingly decided to begin an 'academic' post graduate qualification in shared services. Shared services has no evidence to support it, apart from economies of scale. Unfortunately economies of scale is a myth. Here is some evidence and I invite Canterbury to provide some evidence for its course. Why do we believe in economies of scale? Economies of scale - a myth!

I would really like to hear more about your experiences in participatory urban planning. I agree with your idea that its basically just a bad start. I think the website flaws are due only to laziness, in this case. I do commend London for having a desire to actively engage common people in budget allocating. Maybe the awareness would get more people out of the tanning bed and into the parks. The system certainly needs work, but its a step in the right direction, no?

Facipulator uploaded a PDF file: Why do we believe in economy of scale? about 1 month ago.

Professor John Seddon asks the question 'Why do we believe in economy of scale?' the answer is an uncomfortable reality that if confronted could transform the UK public sector. A must read for public sector and government leaders. For more see The Systems Thinking Review http://www.thesystemsthinkingreview.co.uk/

KareAnderson (New User) created Books on How to Accomplish Greater Things With Others 3 months ago.

A sign of the growing popularity of all kinds of collaboration is the growing number of books on some aspect of the topic.  What are your favorites? Here are some I’ve come across: Alone Together: Sociable Robots, Digitized Friends, and the Reinvention of Intimacy and Solitude by Sherry Turkle. The Big Sort: Why the Clustering of Like-Minded American is Tearing Us Apart by Bill Bishop. Bursts: The Hidden Pattern Behind Everything We Do by Albert-Laszlo Barabasi....

harlamar (New User) commented on Multi-channel citizen engagement: the Ipatinga PB experience (PB part 3) 3 months ago.

The use of internet, and subsequent high participation it brings in Brazil is very interesting. A colleague of mine interned for the Sao Paulo municipality, doing social work of information gathering and participatry planning meetings in favelas (slums) for the infrastructure upgrading projects of the Secretary of Habitation. They do everything face-to-face, with the social workers visiting the sites, but an hsa or the aforementioned SMS idea could be effective, I think, as there isn't much o...

harlamar (New User) commented on When Desperate Times Call for Participatory Measures 3 months ago.

All of these increasingly large budget gaps are having some interesting responses, especially in California. Last August, there was the "Great California Garage Sale", offering government property ranging from desk lamps to computers. Now, there will be legislation this November, possibly legalizing marijuana, as it is estimated to bring in as much as $1.4 billion in tax revenue no to mention, the short term health benefits for medical users. The California state board of equalization estimat...

Paul Johnston commented on Video: John Seddon to Scottish Finance Committee 'When you learn to study & manage value you drive costs out of the system' 4 months ago.

not quite as insightful as the previous Seddon video (of him presenting in California) since he does not really get much time to set out his ideas in detail (unless I missed that part!)

Paul Johnston commented on Deliverology Destroys Service: Seddon provides evidence that Michael Barber's targets regime damaged UK public sector service 4 months ago.

This is an excellent video - the best introduction I have seen to Seddon's thinking and pretty convincing.

John Seddon at his funniest, most insightful and all with evidence.  Keep an eye out for Michael Barber as Mickey Mouse! :-)

For those interested in the use of ICT tools in budget monitoring (a component of the PB process) I would like to draw your attention to the United Nations e-Government Survey document, which has just been released: “Leveraging e-Government at a Time of Financial and Economic Crisis”In chapter 1 “Stimulus Funds, Transparency and Trust”, of which I am the author, I try to present some cases and analysis of ICT usage in the allocation of crisis response funds aroun...
